CI Nunzio Tedesco
Partner, Insurance Industry Tax Practice Leader

Nunzio is a Tax Partner in KPMG’s Financial Services Practice, based in Toronto, and is the leader of KPMG’s Insurance Tax Practice. He has more than 31 years of professional experience and has been a member of the KPMG Insurance Industry Practice concentrating on insurance tax maters since 1991.Nunzio has extensive experience with a wide range of complex tax matters including domestic and cross-border issues related to both resident and non-resident life and non-life insurance companies, tax planning for the purchase and sale of insurance companies and insurance businesses, corporate reorganizations, captive insurance, and negotiations with tax authorities. Nunzio is actively involved in addressing industry and client specific issues with the Department of Finance, CRA, and the Ontario Ministry of Revenue.Nunzio is the income tax advisor to the Insurance Bureau of Canada’s tax panel.

Nunzio has focused on the tax matters related to IFRS 17 for the last 2 years and has been an active member of the IBC IFRS-17 tax working group and the related meetings with the Department of Finance, part of the IBC Acquisition Costs subgroup as well as actively participating in the CLHIA tax committee analysis of the related issues.
 Margarita Volkova
Senior Manager, Tax, Financial Institutions

Margarita is a Senior Tax Manager in KPMG’s Financial Services Practice in Toronto. She has been advising clients in the insurance industry for the last 6 years.

Margarita provides tax compliance and advisory services and has experience working with Life, P&C, as well as both resident and non-resident insurance companies.
In addition to corporate compliance and tax provision work, she has assisted clients with tax planning, Canadian withholding tax issues, and CRA audits.

 Frankie Davenport
Partner, Tax Transformation & Technology

Frankie is a Partner in our Tax Transformation & Technology practice – a unique service line that combines tax technical expertise, Lean Six Sigma principles, and technology, to transform tax functions and their compliance and reporting processes.

Frankie has a deep understanding of both tax and technology, and works with clients across Canada to design and implement best-in-class tax operating models and tax technology strategies. She also brings significant experience working with clients in the areas of technology-enabled process improvement and compliance automation solutions, to meet today’s tax compliance challenges.

Frankie frequently speaks about technology topics at national and global tax summits, and is a regular panelist at accounting industry events, where she presents on areas where accounting, tax, and technology subjects overlap. Frankie is also passionate about motivating and fostering STEM talent within KPMG and in the broader community.


 Yakoob Vayani
Partner, Indirect Tax Services

Yakoob is a Partner in the Indirect Tax Group of KPMG Canada with over 17 years of indirect tax experience. He joined KPMG in 2000 in the audit practice and has been a key member of the indirect tax team since 2003. Yakoob has had vast experience managing successful large scale indirect tax advisory, compliance, recovery, and risk management engagements across various industry sectors.

He leads the P&C insurance industry for the Indirect Tax practice and works with small, medium ad large insurers nationally in respect of the various areas of the business.
 Paul Lynch
National Leader - Tax Litigation & Dispute Resolution

Paul has over 32 years of tax experience including 18 years with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). He currently leads the Tax Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice for KPMG in Canada and serves on the steering committee for KPMG’s Global Tax Dispute Resolution & Controversy practice.

Function and specialization include assistance with interactions with tax authorities for audit defense, tax disputes, advance rulings and tax remediation including voluntary disclosures.
