Continuous education is the cornerstone of the CIAA's mission. Each year we strive to organize events that will capture the attention of Members and encourage their participation.

The CIAA Annual Conference

In 2018 we travelled to Montreal for our Annual Conference (September 23-26), at the Sofitel Golden Mile. Our flagship event brought together members and speakers from Canada and the US to meet, learn and network.

In 2019 we will travel to beautiful Saskatoon - September 15-18, 2019 - and we hope to see you there!

Breakfast Seminars: Regular & Relevant

The CIAA hosts regular breakfast seminars in downtown Toronto. The seminar presenters are experts in the industry and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the podium. With topics such as accounting updates or earthquake exposure guidelines, we aim to provide relevant seminars to keep us current. Seminars are co-ordinated by David Scotland at

Fundamentals of Accounting
Nottawasaga Inn Resort, Alliston, Ontario
June 9 - 19, 2019

Our popular Fundamentals of Accounting course is a week-long course at the Nottawasaga Inn Resort in Alliston, Ontario. The CIAA hosts 40 students each June for a lively, interactive week that brings together seasoned instructors and a wide-ranging curriculum. Attendees are often new to the industry or wish to deepen their understanding of insurance accounting and how it fits into their organizations. With 'big picture' topics such as reinsurance, premiums, claims and investments, attendees get a comprehensive overview of P&C accounting. It's also a great opportunity to network with industry colleagues in a comfortable setting.

Attendees receive a Certificate of Achievement upon completion. If you're a CPA, this course may qualify for your professional development credits, please contact your association for information. The Advanced Course
Nottawasaga Inn Resort, Alliston, Ontario
May 26 - 31, 2019

Join industry experts, along with guest speakers, in this week-long intensive program May 26-31, 2019. This course attracts professionals from across Canada and typically has a waiting list. It offers an ambitious business program that covers it all - from strategic planning, to product pricing and underwriting, to investment management and sales and distribution. A variety of proven instruction methods - presentations by industry experts, to interactive sessions and group activities, including a computer simulation model - keep you engaged and challenged.

Held every two years at the Nottawasaga Inn Resort in Alliston, Ontario, this course hones your skills and increases your proficiency in financial management. It's designed to help you understand where the industry is going, the challenges it faces and how you can prepare. A certificate is awarded upon successful completion of the course.
