Meet the Speakers


Margarita Volkova
Manager, Tax, Financial Institutions

Margarita is a manager in the Canadian Corporate Tax practice at KPMG. She Joined KPMG in 2013 and specializes in advising clients in the insurance and asset management industries. Margarita provides tax compliance and advisory services and has experiences working with Life P&C, farm mutual insurers as well as both resident and non-resident insurance companies. 




Terri Fotheringham
Partner, Tax

Terri Fotheringham is a Partner in KPMG's Financial Service Tax Practice in Toronto. She has 15 years of public accounting experience and more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry.

Terri provides tax compliance and tax advisory services to both resident and non-resident corporations with a focus on insurance and banking taxation. She is also involved with the audit of tax provisions for large publicly-listed corporations as well as engagements related to tax transformation, tax strategy and global tax compliance outsourcing.

As a former CIAA board member and President, Terri has been involved with the association for over 15 years, chairing business programs, the Annual Conference and providing tax updates.



Yakoob Vayani
Partner, Indirect Tax                       

Yakoob is a partner in KPMG's Indirect Tax Practice and is based in Toronto. He joined KPMG in 2000 and has focused exclusively on sales tax since 2013. Yakoob has extensive financial services experience particularly insurance and provides advisory, compliance, dispute resolution and reverse audit services to his clients.

Yakoob has recovered significant commodity tax overpayments and continues to identify planning opportunities to reduce sales tax expense for his clients.

Yakoob has presented at the Commodity Tax Symposium, Tax Executives Inc. (TEI) in 2015 and 2017 and is a contributor to KPMG's Annual Indirect Tax Financial Services Update.


Mark Gronsfelt
Manager, Indirect Tax

Mark is a manager in KPMG’s Indirect Tax Group and practices out of the Toronto office. He joined the Dutch KPMG firm in 2011 focusing on (EU) VAT and transferred to the Canadian KPMG firm in 2014 focusing exclusively on indirect tax in particular for financial institutions.

Mark provides indirect tax compliance and advisory related services to a variety of different type of resident and non-resident insurers. He is also heavily involved with indirect tax automation solutions (both internal as well as external) for clients in the financial services sector.

Mark has presented and is a contributor to KPMG’s Annual Indirect Tax Financial Services Conference.
